Sanitizer is an exceedingly important piece of your home brewery. The hardware you brew with must be cleaned up right before use, or you can spoil your lager. One can not skip measuring the original gravity readings with a hydrometer if you would like to actually do it properly. The ability to precisely measure this allows someone to accurately determine if the wort is ready for fermentation preventing a bad batch. It also tells you how much alcohol is in your beer.

Using a hops bag or other grain bag is a useful way to contain all the loose ingredients that are used during the boiling process and allows for convenient removal when finished. This is a good idea, as cleaning up and straining out hops could be a real discomfort. Dependent on the type of material employed in production, re-cyclable bags are available removing the need to strain before fermentation. They’re a big time saver.
