In the 1970′s homebrewing was made legal by President Jimmy Carter, and so long as you do not try to sell it, the government truly doesn’t care if you make lager at home. So you will need 1 or 2 key items before starting to make lager in your kitchen.  But don’t worry, we can teach you how to make homebrew the easy way.

Sanitizer is an exceedingly important piece of your home brewery. The hardware you brew with must be cleaned up right before use, or you can spoil your lager. This prevents threatening bacteria from having the ability to grow in the lager. It also keeps out unnecessary micro-organisms that you do not want in there either.

One can not skip measuring the original gravity readings with a hydrometer if you would like to actually do it properly. The ability to precisely measure this allows someone to accurately determine if the wort is ready for fermentation preventing a bad batch. It also tells you how much alcohol is in your beer.

Using a hops bag or other grain bag is a useful way to contain all the loose ingredients that are used during the boiling process and allows for convenient removal when finished. This is a good idea, as cleaning up and straining out hops could be a real discomfort. Dependent on the type of material employed in production, re-cyclable bags are available removing the need to strain before fermentation. They’re a big time saver.

Beginner recipes and kits are available for those new to the hobby. Home-brewed beer is a creative and time intensive process that takes care and precision. With a unending variety of ingredients available, the results are unthinkable. The most important thing is to have fun while you make homebrew!
